As a Teacher in a Back-Up Center, you will have the opportunity to impact the lives of children by providing a safe and nurturing environment for children that encourages their social, emotional, physical and intellectual development. You will work with a talented team of teachers and assist in the design and implementation of a developmentally appropriate curriculum according to the guidelines established by Bright Horizons Family Solutions and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). You will have the opportunity to grow professionally as you review important decisions with supervisors and work collaboratively to maintain positive relationships with parents, children, co-workers and clients. Ensure the safety and supervision of children at all times by meeting the physical demands of the position. What is unique about being up a Back-Up Care Teacher? An exciting part of back-up care is that everyday can feel like a first day of school! What is Back-Up Care? Back-up care is designed for children whose regular care has broken down and who, therefore, may be first-time or infrequent users of the program. Bright Horizons recognizes that back-up care is a special kind of care for young children. They need to feel safe and secure among people who understand what it is like to be a young child in an unfamiliar place. Our approach to back-up child care incorporates a particular emphasis on individualizing care to each child. Back-up child care is available to help working parents address a variety of common child care issues that cause disruption in their lives, including: - Breakdowns in primary child care - Family member/care provider vacation/sick days - Stay-at-home spouse doctor appointments etc. - Nanny turnover - School vacations - Infant transition - Business travel - Snow days Requirements Must be 18 years of age Must hold a minimum of 12 credits/units of college level Early Childhood Education course work BA or AA in ECE or CDA is preferred A minimum of one year of documented professional teaching experience with the primary age group you are applying for is required. Individual state and center requirements may also apply. A back-up teacher must be flexible and thrive on change.
